Tips for using NFC on your Samsung Galaxy
NFC on your Samsung Galaxy lets you make contactless payments and exchange information with compatible devices and accessories nearby. Follow these tips to use NFC effectively, access its controls quickly, and check the key settings that can help you get the most out of it.
Note: Menu names, settings, and screen layouts may vary depending on the model and software version.
To make a payment or read an NFC tag, hold the back of your Samsung Galaxy close to the NFC reader or payment terminal. Keep the device near the reader for a few moments to allow the NFC connection to be established.
Adding NFC to the Quick settings panel gives you fast access to the feature and makes it easy to turn it on or off. If NFC does not respond as expected, turning it off and back on may also help restore normal operation.
Add NFC to the Quick settings panel
Step 1. Swipe down from the top right corner of the screen to open the Quick settings panel.
Step 2. Tap the Edit icon.
Step 3. Tap Add a control.
Step 4. Tap NFC.
Step 5. Press and hold the NFC button > Drag it to the top area of the Quick settings panel.
Step 6. Tap Done.
Step 7. Tap Done.
Turn NFC off and back on
Step 1. Swipe down from the top right corner of the screen to open the Quick settings panel.
Step 2. Tap the NFC button to turn it off.
Step 3. Tap the NFC button again to turn it back on.
If you have more than one payment app installed on your Samsung Galaxy, you can choose which one is used by default for NFC payments. Check this setting to make sure your preferred payment app is selected.
Step 1. Open Settings > Tap Connections.
Step 2. Tap NFC and contactless payments > Turn on the feature.
Step 3. Tap Default wallet app.
Step 4. Select Samsung Wallet.
Some cases and accessories, especially those containing magnets, cards, or metal components, can interfere with NFC communication. If you experience difficulty using NFC, temporarily remove the case or accessory to check whether it is causing the issue.
Some NFC services may use the SIM card to store payment or authentication information. If an NFC service does not work as expected, remove and reinsert the SIM card, then restart your Samsung Galaxy. If the issue continues and appears to be related to the SIM card, the card may need to be replaced.
Step 1. Insert the SIM eject pin into the tray hole.
* Always insert the eject pin straight into the tray hole.
Step 2. Pull out the SIM tray completely.
* Do not bend or force the SIM tray.
Step 3. Replace the SIM card in the tray with the gold contacts facing upward.
* Make sure the SIM card is properly seated in the tray.
Step 4. Reinsert the tray fully into the device.
