Using the Detergent Drawer on a Samsung Washing Machine
How to Use the Detergent Drawer in Your Samsung Washing Machine
Using the detergent drawer correctly in your Samsung washing machine ensures efficient cleaning, prevents residue buildup, and avoids unpleasant odors. Follow this guide to understand the layout, fill compartments properly, and troubleshoot common issues.
1. Understanding the Detergent Drawer Layout
Samsung washing machines come with various detergent drawer configurations. Here's how to identify and use each compartment:
-Three-Compartment Dispenser (Front Load Models):
- Main-Wash Compartment (A): Use for main wash detergent, water softener, soaking detergent, bleach, or stain remover.
- Softener Compartment (B): Add fabric softener or additives here.
- Prewash Compartment (C): Fill with prewash detergent for preliminary cleaning.
-Two-Compartment Dispenser (Type 1):
- Wing Distributor (A): Use for main wash detergent, water softener, soaking detergent, bleach, or stain remover. Powder detergent is recommended.
- Rinse Cap (B): Add fabric softener here.
-Three-Compartment Dispenser (Type 2):
- Softener Compartment (A): Add fabric softener.
- Liquid Detergent Compartment (B): Use for liquid detergent. Remove this compartment for powder detergent.
- Bleach Compartment (C): Add nonchlorine bleach as per instructions.
2. Recommended Detergent Types
For optimal performance, use HE (High Efficiency) detergent with all Samsung washing machines. Avoid using tablet, capsule, ball, or net-type detergents in the drawer.
-Why HE Detergent?
HE detergent is formulated for high-efficiency machines, producing fewer suds and ensuring thorough rinsing. Using non-HE detergent can lead to residue buildup and odors.
3. Refilling the Auto Detergent and Softener Dispensers
If your machine displays "Refill detergent," "Refill softener," or "Refill detergent & softener," follow these steps:
- Pull the detergent drawer to open it.
- Turn the Auto detergent dispenser cap (A) anticlockwise to open.
- Apply an appropriate amount of detergent to the Auto detergent dispenser (B). Replace the cap and turn it clockwise to close.
- Turn the Auto softener dispenser cap (C) anticlockwise to open.
- Apply an appropriate amount of softener to the Auto softener dispenser (D). Replace the cap and turn it clockwise to close.
- Push the detergent drawer to close it fully until you hear a click.
After refilling, press and hold the Play/Pause button to allow the machine to detect the detergent/softener levels. Detection time may vary depending on the detergent type.
4. Tips for Effective Detergent Use
-Use Warm Water for Dissolving Detergent:
Warm water helps dissolve detergent effectively. Cold water may leave residue on clothes, hoses, or the spin basket.
-Avoid Excessive Detergent:
Using too much detergent doesn't improve cleaning and can cause residue buildup. Follow the manufacturer's guidelines for the correct amount.
-Ensure Proper Rinsing:
Incomplete rinsing can leave detergent residue, leading to odors. Run an additional rinse cycle if necessary, especially with powder detergent.
-Never Put Detergent Directly on Laundry:
Powder detergent placed directly on clothes can cause discoloration. Always use the detergent drawer.
